Carline Inginac Letter and Envelope Set
NEWARK -- Before Rakeem Scott and Carline Inginac were each sentenced on Tuesday to 22 years in prison for killing 57-year-old Sandy Yuen during a 2013 home robbery, their attorneys asked the judge to shave a few years off their prison terms.
Scott's attorney, public defender Deirdre McMahon, requested 18 years, saying Scott "does apologize to the victim's family." Inginac's attorney, Robert Guido, asked the judge to impose a 20-year sentence "out of a sense of compassion."
But Superior Court Judge Ronald Wigler rejected those bids for lighter sentences, saying Scott and Inginac had committed a senseless and barbaric killing.
"I fail to see how you showed any compassion whatsoever for Ms. Yuen in this case," Wigler told Inginac during her sentencing. "It was a rather barbaric act that you and Mr. Scott displayed here.
"I see no reason to show any compassion for you," the judge added.
